Between 2012-2013, Chinese manufacturer Tianjin Hi-Tech recorded energy savings of 49% and 36% in two CO2 HP heat pumps installed in railway stations in Dandong and Tongliao citites. The systems provide hot water, space heating and air conditioning for the stations for all-weather purposes and are able to maintain a higher Coefficient of Performance than that of a conventional HCFC or HFC-based system, even at temperatures of down to -25°C.

In 2013 the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) approved the $1-million (USD) project preparation grant to develop and install a deep Sea Water Air-Conditioning System in Mauritius. The system will pump cold (5oC) water through heat exchangers at a cooling station so as to cool local buildings, helping to reduce CO2 emissions by about 36,287 tonnes each year.
