DeLonghi is an Italian manufacturer using R290 and water-to-air technology to maximise the cooling effect and deliver substantial energy savings. The water-to-air portable air-conditioner achieves energy efficiency as high as 3.58 EER for the Pinguino DeLonghi PAC WE110ECO model while the EER of an air-to-air system with class A energy efficiency is 2.60.
The Chinese company Gree Electric Appliances Inc. is the world’s largest manufacturer of residential air-conditioning units. Gree’s R-290 production line can produce non-inverter and inverter split type air conditioners, window type air conditioners, movable air conditioners and dehumidifiers, which are now mainly exported to EU market.R-290 units have been awarded the CE marking and certification by the VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik e.V.), the German Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies. In 2011 Gree had installed approximately 100 R290 units in the Maldives. In 2015 GREE installed 243 units in 2015 in Shen Zhen University in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. Gree’s R290 air-conditioner units have a coefficient of performance (COP) of 3.6, the equivalent to state grade one for energy performance.

Grenada received two 18,000 British Thermal Unit (BTU) R290 inverter air-conditioning units under a regional demonstration project for the introduction of low global warming potential flammable refrigerants in the region.
The two hydrocarbon-based AC units were installed in Grenada’s pilot training centre for low-GWP flammable refrigerants which is equipped with state-of-the-art tools and equipment specifically designed to handle flammable refrigerants.
These include recovery machines, vacuum pumps, refrigerant identifiers, electronic scales and leak detectors, charging stations, welding machines, multi-meters, among other tools.
The training centre is open to local technicians, technical colleges and residential air-conditioning (RAC) technicians in the region.
These new air-conditioning systems will be used to train students and technicians in using hydrocarbon technology in the air-conditioning sector.
With support from the Montreal Protocol’s Multilateral Fund, Midea a Chinese consumer appliance manufacturer, has converted a production line for residential air conditioners, with a production capacity output of 200,000 units per year.
In 2017 over 1,000 units were installed in dormitories at the Nanyang Vocational and Technical College in Jiaxing, China.
Midea has also completed projects in other warm ambient regions, including at Seychelles University in the Seychelles.
Midea’s R-290 split Air Conditioning systems received the Blue Angel Ecolabel in Germany in 2018.
The Pinguino PAC EX100 Silent has BTU/H 11.000 cooling capacity and comes with fan only function and dehumidifying function with a 24 hour electronic timer and thermostat.
The Pinguino PAC EX100 Silent has 2.5kW cooling capacity and comes with fan only function and dehumidifying function with a 24 hour electronic timer and thermostat.
Pioneer air-conditioners are HFC Free.
Pump House is available as cooling only or heat pump.
Godrej developed India’s first commercially available R290 split air conditioner in 2012 and has since expanded its hydrocarbon product roll-out. In 2017, the company reached market sales of over 400,000 units.
The company’s general manager Diptendu Bhattacharya declared that the use of R290 has both environmental and economic benefits. The use of micro-channel heat exchangers brought up COP by 16.5%, lowered power consumption by 20%, and the charge size to 360g to comply with European standard EN 378. In a next step, Godrej plans to reduce the channel sizes in the micro-channel condensers, and to commercialise the refrigerant leak detection system developed in-house.
Godrej has cooperated with UNEP and UNDP to open a production line in Maldives in an effort to promote energy efficient R290 air-conditioner units outside India.
Haier introduced its R-290 air conditioning units in 2015. It currently has six R-290 production lines and says it is fully capable of mass-producing HFC-free intelligent inverter air conditioners. The R-290 ECO SMART Air Conditioner Production Line has been certified by TUV Rheinland to meet the criteria specified in the European Explosion-Proof Safety Instructions and the IEC International Standards and Safety Requirements.
HAIER has installed 53 R-290 air-conditioning units in the UNDP Building in Beijing, China.

ATMO Intelligence, the Market Development division of shecco invites air-conditioning and refrigeration stakeholders to participate in a survey that assesses the F-Gas Regulation, sector by sector, while also looking into what should be included in an upcoming revision of the regulation.
Respondents select the sectors they are active in and complete a custom survey based on their interests. “With these results, we will produce a comprehensive report that will be shared with policymakers across the EU to drive more progressive change, particularly in terms of refrigerants and getting rid of harmful gases in all sectors – from transport refrigeration to domestic air conditioning,” said Ilana Koegelenberg, Market Development Manager at shecco.
Once completed, the report will be freely available for download. The survey should take around 15-20 minutes.
