Liebherr was the first manufacturer to have changed to environmentally friendly HFC-free refrigerants for its entire range of household and professional refrigerators and freezers.  Based on the Greenfreeze™ hydrocarbon technology, the Liebherr line uses R600a and R290 as the refrigerants of choice for its refrigerators, cold-storage cases and chest freezers, and has achieved award-winning energy efficiency as a result.
GreenFreeze technology was developed by Greenpeace in 1992 and refers to refrigerators and freezers that contain no fluorocarbons. Typically, these systems use cyclopentane for the foam and isobutane (R-600a) as the refrigerant.
In 2017 Liebherr launched a range of supermarket refrigeration display cabinets.
