Major food retailer Aldi has announced plans to continue its roll out of natural refrigerant heat pumps to all 990 of its stores in the UK and Ireland. Since 2023, all new Aldi stores have been fitted with Valliant R-290 heat pumps as standard. The success of these installations has led the supermarket chain to begin retrofitting them to all their existing stores.

Richard Conway, National Real Estate Director for Aldi UK, said: “Our success working with Vaillant to support our distribution centres and UK headquarters over the past eight years, has given us the confidence to extend the relationship into a new phase. We are using Vaillant’s technical solutions, expertise, and support to further enhance the green credentials of our store estate across the UK & Ireland.”

The Valliant aroTHERM Plus systems will be installed in arrays of two to five units per store depending on the store’s size. The roll out is planned to take place gradually over the next five years.
