In December 2017, China opened its first transcritical CO2 store thanks to METRO, FUTE and CAREL. The store is equipped with SCM transcritical CO2 compressor racks, with the goal of ensuring system efficiency with natural refrigerants.
The METRO Lishui bridge store was the first in China to use transcritical CO2 refrigeration technology. The store covers a total surface area of 4100 m2 and comprises 84 cabinets and 28 air
coolers, divided into low, medium and high temperature applications. There are 2 compressor racks with a total cooling capacity of 497 kW.
The installation comprises two transcritical CO2 units, a booster system with MT and LT lines, and a single-line system with HT loads only. In the booster system, there is also an additional parallel suction line that can manage the flash gas flow rate from the receiver to the high pressure line (gas cooler), increasing system efficiency in mid-high temperature operating conditions. The CAREL pRack controller manages temperature control and heat recovery which provides hot water for space heating.

CAREL, Advansor and Temtec have installed a system, specifically designed and patented by Advansor, in southern Germany. Commissioned by a large international chain, this small-medium installation, using natural refrigerant only (CO2), also features a high level of integration, with just one unit providing food cooling, room air-conditioning and heating.
This type of unit can adapt automatically to outside climatic conditions, cabinet cooling demand and specific operating conditions, adjusting its operating cycle so as to maximise system efficiency and exploit all the energy available.
A parallel compressor further improves system energy efficiency, making this type of system suitable for milder climates.
Carel also provided a calculation system that, based on unit performance and energy efficiency, can apportion total system energy consumption to the individual functions – food cooling, air-conditioning and domestic hot water.
Pack Calculation Pro™ is a simulation tool for calculating and comparing the yearly energy consumption of refrigeration systems and heat pumps. It is designed to compare different system designs, control strategies and refrigerants. The database of real compressors makes it possible to compare the performance of different products using a single definition for the operating conditions.
Panasonic unveiled its first CO2 transcritical rack in 2018. The rack was installed in a Beijing supermarket in the summer of 2018. The current target market is the Asian market for larger capacity CO2 based HVAC&R systems. Eliwel provides the system controls while Dorin supplies the compressors. Complete training and maintenance will be provided for the customer.

ATMO Intelligence, the Market Development division of shecco invites air-conditioning and refrigeration stakeholders to participate in a survey that assesses the F-Gas Regulation, sector by sector, while also looking into what should be included in an upcoming revision of the regulation.
Respondents select the sectors they are active in and complete a custom survey based on their interests. “With these results, we will produce a comprehensive report that will be shared with policymakers across the EU to drive more progressive change, particularly in terms of refrigerants and getting rid of harmful gases in all sectors – from transport refrigeration to domestic air conditioning,” said Ilana Koegelenberg, Market Development Manager at shecco.
